Wireless Charging Stations for Apple products Part 3

Note: make sure to read part 2 for more info.

I’ll cut right to the chase: after all this trouble, I finally stumbled upon a sensible charger. Meet the Scosche BaseLynx Modular Charging System:

Let’s take a look at the feature set:

USB-PD Power Supply USB-PD Charging Apple Watch Support Price
Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad $139.95
SliceCharge Pro $159.95
Nomad Base Station Hub Edition $99.95
Nomad Base Station Apple Watch Edition $139.95
Nomad Base Station Pro N/A
ZENS Liberty Wireless Charger $179.98
Scosche BaseLynx Pad+Watch+EndCap $159.85

We’re getting there, we’re getting there… the lack of USB-PD power supply is something I can live with, so overall, it’s a decent setup. I have only 3 complaints:

  • There’s no kit for the combo I listed, which could reduce the price somewhat…
  • … which is quite excessive to begin with.
  • And most importantly, it’s exclusive to the US Apple store, so the rest of world is out of luck, for now. I tweeted them about EU availability, I’ll update this post if I receive a reply.

I might consider this charger once it arrives in Europe, but that $160 price tag will hike up to around $200 after taxes in my country, or, thanks to the ridiculous 1:1 USD/EUR exchange rate most companies apply, even €200, so understandably, I’m hesitant. A $100-120 price tag would be totally fair. In any case, we’re definitely making progress. Can’t wait for these things to become more common (and cheaper).

Are there better options out there with the listed features? Please let me know in the comments below!

Update: according to the apple.com Q&A, the product will be available in Europe in January 2020. Yay!
